American Journey / Memphis

My young daughter came over to Memphis as a short-term exchange student.I decided to go to meet her with much effort. However, it is the same United States, but it takes approximately six hours by air from San Jose to Memphis.

Memphis is the town where prospered as a center of the cotton growing in the east bank of the Mississippi.

Mississipi is the inland river which is 400 miles to the Gulf of Mexico,  I was surprised at this overwhelming quantity of water.

Memphis is famous as the town where Elvis Presley was born. The rotation of the house where Elvis was born is made a sightseeing spot and is called Grace land.

Fortunately, I happened to meet an annual event this week.

I went to watch a karaoke competition fully supported by the town.

I knew that there was many Elvis in this town.

There was feminin Elvis too. She sang it emotionally more than 30 minutes.

I think whether this person was professional. It was just Elvis on stage! The former Elvis fan gave a shrill voice. They are women beyond 70 years old.

I entered the rock'n roll cafe where let me feel the 50s.

There is Blanchard Springs Caverns in Ozark National Forest of Arkansas. It takes approximately four hours by car from Memphis. It is valuable place even if I spend the time only for it. There is an elevator following the stalactite cave of the bottom of the earth in this building. My body was covered to Wet and coolly air when I arrive at the bottom of the earth. It is finally a beginning of bottom of the earth exploration.

Blanchard Springs Caverns can hardly be described in words! It is difficult for even a photograph to express this strange, beautiful space.Strange-shaped stalactite fills up the big space. And I walked the sidewalk maintained well between the stalactite. The first room is called The Cathedral Room.

Huge jellyfish.

The length of the sidewalk is half mile, but takes one hour or more to enjoy the view.

The battleship which nature formed.

The second room is called Coral Room.I felt some religious brightness in the beauty.

Participants of the tour hear the explanation of the member of explanation eagerly in spots. There were a lot of specialized questions.

I will not forget this strange, beautiful scene throughout the life.

IMG_1677_1280.jpg

The water which gushes out of the crack of the rock in large quantities. Here is a place called Blanchard Spring. This water is groundwater coming out of the stalactite cave.

I visited the Memphis University where my daughter studied in.On the large site, space harmonizes with many buildings and directs a place of the research of the truth.

IMG_1748_1280.jpg

The color of the building is solid and lines up orderly.

IMG_1775_1280.jpg

John S. Wilder Tower becomes the symbol of the university.

IMG_1781_1280.jpg

In both the old building and the new building, images of the appearance are unified. I understand that the concept of the building has been followed for many years. It is a point to want the Japanese university to follow it.

Is the tiger called Tom the mascot of this university? TOM was in the at every turn of the campus.
